Cherry Bars

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
4 eggs
5 tbs maraschino cherry juice
2 dozen well-drained cherries, chopped fine
2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup margarine
2 oz. semi-sweet chocolate

1. Blend butter, salt, powdered sugar and flour to make soft dough. Press
evenly into ungreased 9″X13″ pan. Bake at 350 degrees 15-20 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, combine eggs, juice, cherries, sugar and 1/4 cup flour. Blend
until smooth. Pour over baked crust

3. Reduce heat to 325 degrees and bake 25 minutes until firm. Cool.

4. Glaze:
Melt margarine and chocolate together. Spread over bars as a glaze. (Or
just sprinkle with powdered sugar.)


Substitute 1 TBS grated orange peel and 5 TBS orange juice for cherries and
cherry juice. Use same glaze as above.
