Children’s Theatre Kicks Off 27th Season

The Children’s Theatre in downtown Salt Lake City is a great way to give your
children an exposure to the arts and get them excited about live theatre.
You can take part in watching productions, or learning the craft from the
experts.

James Parker, from The Children’s Theatre talks about the upcoming season.


The Children’s Theatre announces its Mainstage schedule for the 2010-11
season, the theatre’s 27th.
The season opens the first weekend in September with a special event of
“The Brave Little
Tailor” and plays for three weekends.

The Mainstage begins in November and ends in May with 4 weekends each.
Performances are
on Fridays at 7pm and Saturdays at 1pm and 4:30pm during the run of each
performance with
an increased range for our holiday favorite, BABES IN TOYLAND.

The Children’s Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has
operated in various
locations in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah since 1985 and currently operates
a 99-seat black
box theatre at 237 S. State Street. The Children’s Theatre’s mission is to
inspire children to
cultivate creativity through the theatrical arts, and produces three programs,
the Acting School,
the Mainstage and Field Trip/School Performances throughout the year to
achieve these goals.
The Children’s Theatre is Utah’s premiere theatre for young audiences. The
mission of our organization is “Inspiring children to cultivate creativity
through
the theatrical arts.” Founded by the Parker family in 1986, The Children’s
Theatre enters it’s 26th season of productions in downtown Salt Lake City.

Mainstage

The Mainstage are public performances which are held and a 99 seat black
box theatre with a
thrust stage. This intimate venue allows young audience members to sit close
to the stage.
Five productions are offered to the public this year on selected Friday
evenings and two
matinees on Saturdays. For many children it will be the first time they will sit
as an audience
member during a live play. The plays are geared towards younger audiences
with stories based

on classical, modern and original plays. Although it is for children, the plays
do not alienate an
adult.

Acting school

Afterschool Classes
September – May
After school classes are available to students ages 6 – 18. The Children’s
Theatre Acting
School works in an environment that allows students to grow at their own
pace, from first time
to advanced. Students will work with students of varying ages and abilities
which will prepares
them for theatre. Students are encouraged to move through or back and
forth of all our Acting
School programs.

Youthstage
4 productions, all year.
Youthstage is an intense performance based class. Students with the support
of their parents
are required to dedicate themselves towards the performance for the public.

Summer Camps
June – August.
Camps are a fun and challenging way spend part of your summer with us. We
offer 1 and 2
week camps that run Monday – Friday. Camps are offered to students as
young as 4 to 18
years old.

FIELDTRIPS
The Children’s Theatre is well known throughout our state for providing live
theatre performances
that educate and entertain. We produce two productions a year specifically
written and
produced for students ages pre-K through 6th grade.
Currently in our 99 seat theatre we host 7500+ students, but have in the
past had as many as
20,000 students attend annually. It is our goal to provide live theatre to many
more students
throughout the State.
