Move the Christmas village to the front door this year!
Your front door wreath is a big deal. It’s the first thing people see on your holiday home, so go big and go festive! We are sharing a DIY wreath that’s full and fluffy… and all made from one product from the hardware store.
Studio 5 Creative Contributor Michelle Crowley gave us the full tutorial to create a Christmas village wreath of our own.
Foam Insulation
Michelle discovered the wonder that is foam insulation crack & gap spray. Filling gaps and cracks that let cold (or hot) air into the house is the official use, but crafting with it is so much more fun! Michelle recommended only using LocTight brand of spray foam or crack filler. LocTight Tight Spray Crack Filler is the only brand that is pure white, like snow should be.
Wreath Base
Use a white Styrofoam wreath base rather than a wire base. Using a Styrofoam base allows you to use u-shaped floral pins to quickly hold light strands as well as decorative items in place while the foam dries.
Lights
If you choose to light your wreath, Michelle found that warm white, LED battery operated lights work best.
Non-Stick Spray
Spray the area where you will make your wreath and also your gloved hands with Pam kitchen spray. Pam spray helps to prevent the foam from sticking to surfaces that you don’t want it stuck to. Spray around the lights, lifting and positioning them as needed. Be aware of where your battery box is and move it as necessary to keep it from being covered in snow.
Placing the Decorations
Let it set bit so that it’s just beginning to firm up before beginning to place your ornaments or decorations into the “snow.”
Use floral u-picks to help support or to keep ornaments and decorations in place while the foam dries.
Letting it Set
Allow the wreath to dry for several hours. How long will depend on the climate you’re working in and how much spray foam is used.
