Color of the Year: Embracing Emerald

It’s a color you won’t be able to run from! When Pantone announced “emerald green” as the color of the year for 2013, they determined what we would be seeing in stores for the next twelve months.

Fashion blogger Rachel Parcell from the website “Pink Peonies” shares four ways to embrace emerald.

At the beginning of the year, Pantone’s color gurus announced the color that will be trending across the globe for 2013: emerald green! We’ll be seeing it everywhere this year from home décor, to fabric, to cosmetics, to – of course! – clothing.

There are so many ways to wear this color; here are four of my favorite ways to embrace emerald into your wardrobe.

1. Pattern Play: If you are a fashionista, follow the trends closely and are daring and bold, when incorporating emerald into your wardrobe, don’t be afraid to play with pattern.

2. Pastel Pairing: Emerald is a rich jewel tone. When paired with pastel, it creates a palette that compliments each other so well. It adds a feminine touch and is a great combo that will easily transition into Spring.

3. Neutral Territory: Emerald is a bold color, so if you’re looking to tone it down, a simple way to do so is to pair it with a neutral. Adding a light wash chambray top (another on trend style, that will also easily transition into spring) creates the perfect balance between bold and subtle.

4. Less is More: If you’re a budget conscious fashionista, or not as daring, a basic way to incorporate emerald into your wardrobe is to invest in an emerald accessory. For example, add a skinny belt to a black pencil skirt and cream blouse (closet basics) instantly adds interest to your look, while also adding that pop of color.
