These are Valentine’s Day photos you can pull off on your phone.
From fun photo sessions with the kids to flirty pics with your crush, Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to take cheesy but cherished photos.
Photographer Rebecca Franson shared some popular ideas going viral in the photography world right now.
Embrace the Silhouette
The first trend Rebecca explained was a silhouette. “This one was so fun, and you don’t even have to be on top of a huge mountain,” she said. The key to a great silhouette photo is to lower the exposure so that the subjects are black silhouettes against a bright background. Rebecca used Lightroom Mobile to edit her photos.
Wrapping Paper
The wrapping paper trend gained popularity during Christmas, but people are now applying it to Valentine’s Day. “We just hung it up in a doorway and then cut a slit in the middle and tried to make a little heart,” Rebecca shared. This simple setup is fun for children or even pets. Rebecca’s experience with her stepdaughter and dogs turned into a fun, memorable activity, even if the photos didn’t turn out perfectly.
Box Photos
Box photos are another fun idea. Rebecca suggested using a square box, ideally around 30 by 30 inches, to create a series of images. “You can do it for any holiday,” she said. The key is to keep your arms and legs inside the box and use a layout app for editing. This setup is great for parties, where guests can lean into the box for a quick and easy photo op.
Dollar Store Fun
Rebecca emphasized that you don’t need expensive props to create memorable photos. “Just pick up a pack [of glasses] at the Dollar Tree and grab some tinsel,” she advised. Simple items like glasses, tinsel, and candy add some fun to your photos. Use natural light from an open window to boost your photo quality.
Candy and Conversation Hearts
Incorporate candy into your Valentine’s Day photos. Rebecca used suckers and conversation hearts. “The bribe was built right into it,” she joked. These props work well for close-up shots and can be edited in black and white for a different vibe.
Picture Frames and Blankets
Using everyday items like picture frames and blankets are a unique way to add interest. “Just use that as a little frame and have your kids or kid just play around,” Rebecca suggested. For a cozy photo, wrap your kids in a fluffy blanket and shape it into a heart. Even if the blanket isn’t the right color, you can easily change it using editing apps like Lightroom Mobile.
