Old, antique doors are a hip decorating trend. They look great in the stores, but many people don’t know how to utilize them in the comfort of their own home.
Part of the problem is they are full-sized and take up a lot of space…

Ashley Samuelu with local consignment store Emilie Jayne,
helps us look at doors in new fashion.

DOOR DÉCOR: Corner Shelf

• Find two old doors, approximately the same size.

• Use two door hinges to secure the doors together.

• Cut (or have the hardware store cut!) shelving to secure with shelving brackets between the two doors that are set open at an angle to fit the corner it will be placed in.

• Sand, pain or finish this shelving unit, as desired. Typically, with this type of look, the doors look the best when distressed.

DOOR DÉCOR: Single Shelf (for plates, cups or photos)

• Find an old door.

• Attach shelving from wood cut to desired length and position on the door. Use shelving brackets to screw shelves in place. Paint as desired.
