KLEIN’S CUSTOM COUNTERTOPS featuring Matt Klein

IMPROVEMENTS

Klein’s has been in the business of countertops and remodeling for more than 50 years. What have you found has been the best investment for those homeowners looking to update their kitchen or bathroom?

Over the past 50 years, Klein’s has had the opportunity to have fabricated nearly every popular countertop surface in the market today. During that time, there were some definite trends we discovered were true for each type of countertop product. As you know the #1 room for impacting a sale is a kitchen, with #2 being the bathrooms. SO obviously in our business, we’ve seen what works.

• Laminate. Bare minimum. Any money spent upgrading to laminate won’t shorten sales times or increase home value

• Corian. More than laminate and does create a more modern contemporary home. When incorporated with and updated kitchen and bath, this upgrade in a home will typically result in a 15 percent reduction in time a home is on the market.

• Granite. This upgrade changes a kitchen from standard to luxury or high-end. Homes in good condition with granite countertops in the kitchen and bath can expect to push the top levels of price per square-foot in their neighborhood. In addition the showroom look of stone countertops will typically reduce the market time by more than 25 percent.

• Silestone. By far the newest product, Silestone carries with it all of the price and timing benefits of Granite, and in some cases have garnered a premium because of their durability and warranty.

• Of course, picking a neutral color and not a wild red or electric blue color will also effect the pricing as well.

SENSA GRANITE

SenSa granite is a one-of-a-kind granite that will not stain because it is treated by
SenGuard which makes it essentially waterproof. And if the granite surface
won’t absorb water, it won’t stain.

GRANITE AND STAINING

Staining, breakage, and scratching are the biggest problems affiliated with
owning a granite countertop. For years people have simply tried covering
granite with a waxy sealer to lock out the stains, but it’s only been a
temporary fix that simply prevented the stone from breathing and would quickly
wash off or wear away.

SenSa is protected by SenGuard, a permanent molecular application that
enables the pores of granite to repel liquid while allowing the stone to
breathe. This cup is made of sand and has been treated with SenGuard. Pour water into the cup and it doesn’t escape. But you apply an air stream, you can clearly see how the air passes through the cup into the water.

The same protection is permanently attached to SenSa granite. The stone is able
to breath and maintain its natural color as it ages, but water and other liquid
is unable to penetrate the surface and stain. It’s backed by an industry
leading 15-year warranty against staining.
