These 4 perennials and 3 annuals will make a big impact on your landscape
this summer. Whether you have sun or shade, great soil or not-so-good,
we have the answer with these go-to plants that will give that “wow” factor
in your yard. Most are low maintenance and will provide months to years
of enjoyment with these quick tips for success!

PERENNIALS

Chinese Astilbe, Astilbe chinensis ‘Visions’: Bright color in the shade.
Blooms June-July. Best in highly organic soil, consistently moist. Attracts
butterflies, deer resistant.

Tickseed, Coreopsis ‘Jethro Tull’: Great option for sunny areas
with poor, dry soils. This Water SaverTM blooms profusely all summer long
in full sun. Shear back in August for a fall rebloom. Attracts butterflies,
deer resistant.

Lamb’s Ear, Stachys byzantine: Great texture and foliage color,
aggressive growing so the perfect answer for large areas as tall growing
ground cover. Water SaverTM best in high, open shade , such as under tall
trees. Deer resistant.

Maiden Pink Fire Star, Dianthus ‘Devon Xera’: Water SaverTM
blooms all summer long if regularly deadheaded. Scented, great en masse
as a groundcover, or by itself as a specimen plant when used with darker
mulch that contrast well with its silvery foliage. Attracts butterflies.

ANNUALS

Petunias, Wave and Proven Winners Vista series: Premium petunias
that spread and/or mound to fill large spaces with mass color. Less holes
to dig makes for happy gardeners! Plant with slow-release fertilizer for
best results. Attracts butterflies.

Spider Flower, Cleome Senorita Rosalita: Heat and drought
tolerant annual blooms all summer long. At 2-3′ tall, use Senorita Rosalita
to add height to the back of your beds. This variety is thornless, non-
sticky, and odorless. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

Salvia Mystic Spires: Long spires of dark blue blooms all summer
long. Great in beds or containers, cut back half in mid-summer for a
refresh of blooms in Fall. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

OTHER GREAT SUMMER ANNUALS:

Zonal Geraniums: Dead-head to encourage lots of new blooms. From Red
to White, Pink, Lavender, and more…

Lobelia: Great for sun, part-shade, and full-shade. Blues and Whites

Bidens: Filler plant that is somewhat drought resistant. Deep Yellow.

Pennisetum ‘Princess’: If you like Purple Fountain Grass, you’ll love
Princess!. Burgundy blades.
