Get IN the box for an out-of-the-box group photo! Pull it off with just your phone

It might look complicated, but this group photo is actually really easy to pull off.

We are getting “in the box” for an out-of-the-box photo shoot idea.

Rebecca Franson shares all her tips and techniques for trying this fun idea. It is perfect for family photos, holiday cards, class photos, birthday parties, wedding receptions, pets, or even just a rainy day to add some fun.

SUPPLIES

  1. A square box at least 20” x 20”. Rebecca got hers on Amazon
  2. A black blanket
  3. A flat surface — A table or counter is great, although you can lay on the ground
  4. Face a window during daylight hours

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Sketch out how you want your collage to look. Plan which direction to look in each box so the boxes are ‘interacting’ with each other.
  2. Position the subject as far to the opening of the box as possible for best lighting.
  3. Keep the corners of the box squared up by either using tape or a person to hold it.
  4. Clean the lens of your phone camera.
  5. Turn on the grid guide for your camera in settings.
  6. Keep your phone straight up and down, don’t tip it forwards or backwards or it will distort your photo.
  7. Take each photo from the same distance & height.

To edit

Photoshop works great, but you can also use apps like Layout or PicStitch – any app that lets you create a collage.

Rebecca loves this idea for getting a group photo without everyone needing to be there at the same time. And, it’s just fun with endless possibilities!
