Going out for Halloween? 4 cute candy dispensers that discourage treat snatching

Swap out the bowl and sign with a cute candy dispenser!

We’ve all been there… it’s Halloween and you’re not at home. Maybe you’re at a party, or hitting the streets with your own kids. You put out a bowl and a sign that reads, “please take one,” but you know that whole bowl will be gone in minutes. Well, no more tricks on the one providing the treats!

Celeste Whitney has a creative solutions to slow, or even stop the dreaded candy dump.

Gravity Candy Dispenser

With a few brown shipping boxes, you can create a gravity feed dispenser which will allow the candy to come out for the taking at a slower rate and not be as easy to snatch all at once. Celeste suggested getting your own kids in on the fun of creating the contraption to make it unique.

Divide it Up

Another way to slow down the swiping is to have dividers for the candy. With individual candies in their own space, it is hard to grab a handful and go. Celeste created a cauldron full of suckers that were each placed into a Styrofoam ball, so you remove one sucker at a time.

Celeste also carved a Styrofoam pumpkin with the candy inside the mouth so you need to reach in again and again to retrieve the candy, making it more work to take too many.

Ghost Bowl

Another creative approach was a ghost bowl. Knowing it feels like someone is watching also deters people from snatching the candy stash. Use a simple sheet and a bowl on a stool with the ghost clipped to the bowl to look like it’s holding the bowl out, offering the candy. It’s both harder to pick up the bowl, and, who could steal from a cute ghost?
