These are the cutest sheet ghosts we’ve ever seen!
No potter’s wheel needed! Just some clay and cookie cutters will allow you to create a collection of ghosts to put on display that can also showcase your child’s personality.
Art instructor Emily Hammerstad taught us how to make them right at home. It’s a clay craft you can create with your kids to let them get in on the festive fun!
Clay Ghosts
Clay holds its shape really well and can last a long time as a decoration.
- Start with a small ball of tinfoil, scrunch it into the basic ghost shape.
- Cover the tinfoil with a layer of clay, smoothing it out with your fingers.
- Use a straw to poke holes for the eyes and mouth, or you can sculpt in the details with your hands.
- Let the ghost dry. This will depend on the type of clay you’re using
You can press lace into the clay before drying for texture, paint the clay when dry, or use tea lights to glow underneath.
Once it’s dry, you can even add a layer of Mod Podge to give it extra strength and give it a shiny, kiln baked look. Or, you can just let it dry – either way it becomes a long-lasting decoration.
Model Magic Ghosts
Model Magic is perfect if you want a lightweight and more kid friendly project. You don’t even need to wait to paint! It’s fun because you can mix marker ink into the material itself to create a colored clay effect before you even start shaping it. It feels like a cloud!
- Grab a chunk of Model Magic and a marker.
- Gently color on the Model Magic with the marker, then knead it to mix the color into the material. You can create a light pastel or a deeper color by adding more ink.
- Shape it into a ghost, using the same techniques as with the clay.
- Let it air dry. Once it’s dry, you can display it right away.
Whether you go with the sturdier clay version or the quick-and-fun Model Magic, they’re both perfect for adding a handmade touch to your Halloween decorations. Plus, it’s such a great project for kids—and even adults!
