Healthy Recipes for Children

Kari Lane talks about the program which is targeted for children in kindergarten and first grades.

Kohl’s Department Store gave University of Utah Hospital a grant for $206,353 for this program.

As part of this healthy eating program, nutrition students from the University of Utah are visiting 36 different elementary schools throughout the Salt Lake Valley. They are talking to them about healthy eating, good food choices they can make, and how to have a healthy lifestyle. Each first grade child at the schools will receive a cooking apron, a healthy snack recipe cookbook, and crayons. The schools will be visited between Sept and Nov of this year. In April and May of next year the same classrooms will be revisited to see what changes these kids have made and what they have learned regarding healthy eating.

Students are also encouraged to go to www.kohlshealthykids.com and enter the healthy recipe contest and have a chance to win an Nintendo Wii Fit Game!!!

It is so important to teach kids at this young age what healthy eating is and how to make those healthy food choices. It is something they will be able to use for a lifetime.
