Make a Valentine’s floral arrangement in a heart shape!
This is the perfect project to pull off in February. All you need is a little $3 container from Target and a few roses for major floral satisfaction.
Design consultant Lauren Oviatt shared how to make a sweet heart-shaped Valentine centerpiece, no floral arranging skills necessary.

Supplies
This centerpiece doesn’t require any exotic or hard-to-find flowers. Lauren recommended using grocery store flowers, specifically roses, because of their shape. “The nice thing about the rose is it is bulb-like on the bottom and it’s going to sit really well in this little hole that the vase has created,” she explained. She also likes using tulips for this arrangement. Lauren doesn’t advise using flowers like lilies or daisies since they tend to be too floppy.
Vase Embellishments
Lauren upscaled the simple Target vases with some leftover ribbon and a glue gun. “I really gussied it up and it turned out to be a really fun project,” she said. This is a fun personalization step that makes each centerpiece unique. Lauren suggested using ribbon with a little something extra, like ruffles or glitter.
Assembly
Start by filling the vase with water and then place the roses in the vase. “You can take your flowers and just hack them away,” Lauren advised. “You’re not taking the leaves off, you’re not taking the thorns off, you’re literally just cutting it right at the top and putting it right in.” For a fuller look, you can include small filler flowers like carnations or wax flower to soften the edges and create a more dynamic arrangement.
Display
Lauren suggested displaying these heart-shaped centerpieces as a tablescape or just on an entry table. “You could put it on your entry table, you could put a series of them down your kitchen island if you’re entertaining,” she said. Since this project is so affordable, you can make several centerpieces for a larger display if you want to.
Alternatives
If you can’t find the heart-shaped vases, Lauren had a few alternative ideas. She said you can use “any container that you have that is low and flat.” She recommended using scotch tape or floral tape to create a grid across the top of the container to hold the flowers in place. Use this technique for different seasons and occasions in containers of any shape.
