How to Get Your Child into Singing

By: Amber Evans, a talent agent for singers, bands, models, actors; and
Founder of Stars Talent Studio.

With the popularity of the show American Idol, X Factor, and the Voice, many
parents dream of their own children becoming singers someday. However,
many people are unaware of how to get their child into singing
professionally. The following steps are strong guidelines that top talent
agencies all over the country recommend:

5 TIPS FOR LAUNCHING YOUR CHILD’S SINGING CAREER

1.) GET A SECOND OPTION. Find someone who is a professional
that can offer you an unbiased opinion. They may suggest lessons including
vocal and performance skills. The voice instructor can teach your child proper
breathing techniques, proper placement, pronunciation of vowels and words,
build your vocal range, and teach you song writing. The instructor will also
give you an honest assessment of your child’s potential. Some of the best
coaches that teach performance skills and help with branding come from
Stars Talent Studio: Becky Cutler, Michelle Inkley, and Chelsey Stalling. They
can be reached at (801) 201-5885 or visit www.starstalentstudio.com.
For
top vocal coaches, we highly recommend Dean Kaelin, Becky Cutler, and
Linda Thompkinson.

2.) FIND THEIR GENRE. You need to have your child analyzed to
figure out which genre they sing best. It’s imperative to find your child’s
strongest musical genre. Some genres include: pop, country, blues, jazz, hip
hop, contemporary, rock, rhythm contemporary, blue grass, rap, classic rock,
etc. A good vocal coach can help your child develop a unique singing style
that can grab the attention of a talent agent, music producer, or record label.

3.) BECOME MULTI-FAUCTED. We encourage singers to cross
train. What makes a talent the most valuable in the industry is a
multifaceted…. triple treat. The entertainment industry looks for singers who
act, actors who model, models who sings, actors who dance, singers who
song write, etc. Singers should learn how to play their own instruments to
accompany themselves to increase the odds in the business. The more
talents you develop the stronger your chances of being noticed and having
success. Encourage your child to compose original music.

4.) ESTABLISH A BRAND. Singers need to learn how to market
themselves. Create a your own website, blog, You Tube Channel, Facebook
Fan page, twitter account, and any other social media platforms. You can
contact, STARS Talent Studio Media Specialist Deb Clawson at (435) 225-
4301 or email deb@debclawson.com.

5.) GETTING THEM AUDITIONING. Sign up with a talent agency!
By signing with a talent agency, your child will have the opportunity to
audition for commercials, films, and voice over jingles. You can call Stars
Talent Studio at (801) 201-5885 and receive a free consultation to have your
child evaluated for singing, acting, and/or modeling. If your child has what it
takes, having an agent can open up opportunities for film, commercials,
radio jingles, voice work, and possibly a big break with a music producer or
record label. Stars Talent Studio offers the finest group and private vocal
coaches. Go to Facebook and “Like” Stars Talent Studio to see all the positive
feedback on their arts conservatory and agency audition information. See
how they are helping other kids in the industry and then call to receive a free
consultation to have your child reviewed. Visit Stars Talent Studio website at

RECORDING ADVICE:
You may want to consider recording a demo for your child (or even if you are
an adult). Many talent agencies, producers, or record labels will want to have
high quality recording. Stars Talent Studio located in Draper Utah can offer
tips, guidelines, and free advice by calling (801) 201-5885. Stars
recommends Vox Fox Vocal Studio, for $100 you can record one song and
this also includes vocal coaching during the session. This experience can
help determine whether or not your child has what it takes. Bring your
favorite song with a karaoke track and sing to it. Call Becky Cutler at (801)
874-5112 for more information. You may even consider recording the
National Anthem and auditioning for the Jazz, Real Games, Miller Sports Park,
Grizzles, and the Salt Lake Bees. Call these locations and find what time a
year they each do auditions. You’ll never know, the next big thing maybe
your child!
