Quick Fix Remedies for Your Every Beauty Dilemma…

Problem: Dark Under-Eye Circles

Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener.

Run one spud through your food processor and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheesecloth.

Apply to the area directly beneath your eye. Be careful not to let the potato juice come in contact with the eye itself. Leave on for 10 to15 minutes.

Problem: Puffy eyes

Soak a cotton ball in cold milk. Lie down and place them on your closed eyes and relax for a while.

Problem: Dandruff

Pour vinegar into the hair, massage into the scalp, and leave to dry for a few minutes. Wash hair. Repeat this process daily until the dandruff disappears, usually within a few days.

Problem: Dull Hair

To add extra shine and glow to your hair add 2 tablespoons of malt vinegar. Use it as a last rinse and towel dry your hair.

Rub a dab of olive oil in your palms and lightly apply after your hair is dry. This will add some shine and hydration.

Problem: Dirty Hair

If you go 2-3 days between washes but want your hair to smell freshly washed, rub a dryer sheet through it. This will give it a nice scent and also help to control frizzies.

Problem: Dull Nails

Use a common whitening toothpaste. Try scrubbing your nails with Pearl Drops, it’s just as easy as achieving a pearly white smile and will take away any stains and shine up your nails.

Soak your nails in water with lemon juice or lemon slices. The lemon acts as an astringent and will strip away stains. Once your hands are dry, you’ll only need to put on a couple of coats of a clear topcoat.

Problem: Age spots

Rub a small slice of lemon on them daily. You will notice them lighten within a month. (The acidity from the lemon is a natural skin lightener)

Problem: Tangly Hair

Add a small amount of conditioner to water and pour it into a spray bottle

Problem: Baby’s Dry Skin

Olive oil can be used on baby’s dry skin. It’s been known to help diaper rash as well.

Use 100% pure cornstarch instead of perfumed baby powders. It’s better for baby’s lungs and skin and easier on your wallet as well.

Problem: Blisters

Instead of wearing a blister band aid on your foot where it can move around as your feet sweat, stick the blister band aid inside the shoe where it is rubbing. The fabric will hold the band aid in place and prevent future blisters from happening.

Problem: Stuck Nail polish Lids

To avoid nail polish lids from getting stuck, apply a little cooking or baby oil around the rim.

Basic homemade beauty product safety tips:

• Homemade beauty and health products are made to be tweaked and recipes often personalized. Not every product works for every individual.

• Just because it’s natural does not make it 100% safe. You could be allergic, or a certain herb may make you ill. So be aware of side effects just as you would be with a store bought facial peel, hair color, or medication.

• Tweaking of homemade beauty products is perfectly safe, so long as all other basic safety recommendations are followed.

• Everyone really should do test dabs of new homemade products. If you have especially sensitive skin (scalp included) then you really need to do tests dabs. To do a test dab, take a little bit of a homemade product and dab it on your inner arm. You can actually do test dabs with individual ingredients instead, like cedar oil, before using it in a product. Cover the dab with a bandage. If you develop red, burning, itching, pain, or any other issue it’s likely you should toss that product you just made. You can also tweak the recipe to make it work for you.

• Unless you’re a chemist, and really into experimenting, your homemade products should be preservative free. That’s good news for your health, bad news for the life of said product. If there’s anything questionable in your product, that may go bad, keep it in the fridge. Make smaller batches so you can use it up before you end up having to toss a product. Lotions and some hair colors are important to keep in the fridge, while things like soaps and sugar scrubs are not.
