Kurt Bestor Concerts with Jason Castro

Kurt Bestor will share the stage this year with guest artist Jason Castro, from American Idol.

With Kurt Bestor at the controls of his Steinway Grand piano and leading his all-star band and orchestra, fans are in for a memorable holiday concert at Abravanel Hall this December. Adding to the excitement is Kurt’s guest, Jason Castro, a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol who parlayed his substantial singer-songwriter appeal into a top-three finish.

“Jason won over millions of viewers on American Idol and he is sure to win the hearts of the audiences at Abravanel Hall,” Bestor said. “Jason’s rich tenor voice delivers carols and Christmas favorites like you’ve not heard before. Although he’s only 22 years old, I think you’ll be struck by the authentic maturity and the spell-binding intimacy of his voice, ” Kurt said.

Castro began his performing life as a drummer. A first-generation American of Colombian descent, he grew up in a Texas musical family. At Texas A&M University he bought a guitar because he couldn’t play drums in the dorm and taught himself to sing. In August 2007, Castro decided to try out for American when the auditions were held in Dallas. After impressing the judges, he made it to Hollywood. Week after week, he won over audiences with a number of memorable performances, most notably his versions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Hallelujah which he will reprise on Bestor’s show. After the season’s conclusion, Castro hit the road, performing on the hugely successful “American Idols LIVE! Tour 2008.” When the tour ended, Castro moved to Los Angeles and began writing songs, eventually signing a deal with Atlantic Records, and his first album was recently released. His second CD, Who I Am, was released November 5 to critical acclaim.

This is the twenty-second year Kurt will light up the holiday season in Salt Lake City. He will also present holiday concerts in Ogden on December 14, and has created a new, intimate performance, One Silent Night, for the Hafen Theater at Tuacahn and Egyptian Theater in Park City. (Castro performs only at Abravanel Hall.)
