Leavitt’s Mortuary and Aultorest Memorial Park

Mike Leavitt, president and CEO of Leavitt’s Mortuary/Aultorest Memorial Park, began this tradition, now entering its 18th year.

For many Ogden families, the luminaries have become a holiday tradition. A steady stream of cars drives by the Aultorest Memorial Park beginning around dusk. This year, the First Presbyterian Church Bell Ringers will perform from dusk for four to five hours. There will also be free hay rides through the memorial park throughout the evening.

Six thousand luminaries will be placed and lit on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Leavitt’s is now seeking volunteers to help with the placing and lighting of the luminaries. The luminaries are placed in rows about 4 or 5 feet apart.

Volunteer shifts run from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The first shift will place the luminaries, and the second shift will focus on lighting the candles. Anyone interested in volunteering should call in advance. Leavitt’s Mortuary/Aultorest Memorial Park’s phone number is (801)394-5556.

If you’d like your own set of luminaries to let in memory of a loved one who is no longer with you, Leavitt’s Mortuary/Aultorest Memorial Park is now giving away a pack of 10 luminaries to the first 50 people who visit this long-time Ogden business. The address is 836 36th Street in Ogden. Normal business hours for Leavitt’s Mortuary/Aultorest Memorial Park are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
