People from all walks of life submit letters to Jesus.
Leading up to Easter, we’re sharing the special ways you celebrate the true meaning of the holiday.
We recently met one gal, Sarah Jones, who didn’t feel connected to the typical bunny and basket Easter traditions. So, she started something entirely new. It’s a concept that will touch your heart.
The Inspiration
Last year, while visiting New York City, Sarah was moved by an art exhibit that displayed a variety of letters people wrote telling their life story. This experience sparked an idea: “Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a huge collection of letters for Jesus?” Upon returning home, she reached out to friends and family, unsure of how many letters she would receive or how the project would unfold. The result was nothing short of beautiful.
The Letters
The letters revealed deep, sincere emotions and personal connections to Jesus. One letter read, “I pray that you won’t have to ask me who you follow, but that we will embrace knowing that we were in each other’s story all along. I love you, my Savior, Lord, deliverer, healer, and counselor.” Some letters were poems or drawings from little children. These heartfelt messages showcased the unique relationships individuals have with Christ.
The project was such a success last year, she plans to make it a yearly tradition.
Diverse Stories
This year, the project aims to include a broader range of stories. Sarah has been reaching out to various communities, including homeless shelters, prisons, and hospitals to gather letters from people who might not have their stories told otherwise. The goal is to encapsulate the diverse experiences people have with Christ.
Invitation to Participate
Everyone is encouraged to participate by writing a letter to Jesus. The project is set to take place the week before Easter, creating a beautiful tone for the holiday. “I hope everybody writes a letter to Jesus,” Sarah said. Even if you don’t write a letter, you can visit the installation on April 11th at Four Lemons Art Store in Holladay or April 19th at the Compass Gallery in Provo.
