Living Planet Aquarium: Meet the Penguins

Deana Walz is the aviculturist at the planetarium and she explains the program designed to provide visitors with a one-on-one learning opportunity all about penguins!

“The fact that we have the opportunity to see Gentoo penguins in Utah is amazing, let alone have the chance to actually encounter one,” said Angie Hyde, Director of PR & Marketing. “Along with the other unique attractions that The Living Planet Aquarium has to offer, we hope this will add value to the guest experience.”

Led by an aquarium biologist, the experience starts at the front of the exhibit and takes guests behind the scenes to the back of the chilly penguin exhibit while discussing penguin biology, conservation, training, enrichment and care. Participants will meet the penguin in the Penguin Encounter room and experience the cool climate, sounds and even smells of the exhibit. Guests will have a one-on-one chance to ask lots of questions and learn all about the amazing birds. Each encounter will last approximately 45 minutes from beginning to end.

Penguin Encounters will begin Father’s Day, June 20 and will be offered one time per day, Friday through Wednesday at 1:00pm. Admission is $34 per person for all ages and does not include admission to the aquarium. Each child under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Maximum capacity is 8 people per encounter.
