Longer Looking Lashes with Mascaras

The latest craze in cosmetics has been Lengthening Your Eyelashes. While serums have proved effective, they have also been proven to cause irritation and change in eye color. For those of you not willing to take that risk, here are some alternatives.

Lengthening Mascara – They’re like bellybuttons. Everybody has one. High end to low end, every cosmetic line has introduced their version of lengthening mascara. Each mascara has the term false lash in their name or byline, indicating that the mascara would produce the results of a false lash appearance. Here are some thoughts of those who tried it:

My Top Picks:

L’Oreal False Fiber Lashes- Features a blend of two undetectable long and short fibers. The combination of these super-fine nylon and rayon fivers, created from the same material as false lashes, delivers structured volume and length.

$8.95 Available at Mass Retailers

MAC False Lashes- Fashionably false in look, but honestly real, this mascara’s key benefits of volume and curl are matched by a dramatic end look. The unique edge: the ultra-thickening formula in combo with the plush-’em-up action of its unique double-lush brush.

$20 Available at MACcosmetics.com

Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara- The formula is extra-smooth, glossy and good-for-lashes, created with a blend of waxes and absolutely no fibers. Build rich, exaggerated lashes that are extraordinarily thick, super-shiny and conditioned.

$24 Available at LauraMercier.com

Urban Decay Big Fatty- Lengthens lashes while enhancing curl and moisturizing. All this in a redesigned art-deco tube with the fattest brush out there for lashes that stand up and shout. Brush design has bristle around tip, perfect for bottom lashes.

$20 Available at Sephora, Ulta or UrbanDecay.com

How It Works –

The science behind these mascaras is that they have thicker fibers and waxes that bind to your lashes creating added volume and length. Some claim added length of up to 40%. Formulations are important and brush shape is key. While they do define and add volume, the only thing that is going to give you the appearance of false lashes is, well, false lashes.

Ardell False Lashes – False lashes have come a long way with better glues, and better designed strips that make for a more comfortable wear and a better looking lash. You really can choose ANY design you would like, and they are about as easy to apply and remove as mascara.
