Low Fat Pastrami Burgers


1 lb. 93% fat free ground beef (7% fat per 1ounce serving)
½ pound extra lean pastrami thinly sliced and divided into four portions (2oz per burger)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic minced or pressed or 1 teaspoon garlic powder – optional
1/3 cup minced onion – optional
¼ teaspoon salt
dash fresh ground black pepper
2 ounces low fat Swiss cheese or low fat mozzarella cheese sliced into ½ ounce servings
4 low fat or fat free hamburger buns or fat free French or sourdough rolls
8 tomato slices – optional
Romaine lettuce -optional
thinly sliced onion – optional
dill pickle slices – optional
mustard brown, deli or regular
catsup
low fat or fat free mayonnaise or salad dressing


1. Preheat grill according to type, gas, electric, briquette, etc.

2. Using a fork, mix meat together with Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. Divide meat into four equal pieces and form into 3/4-inch thick patties.

3. Grill burgers 2 to 3 inches from heat source for 6 to 8 minutes on each side turning once. If Add pastrami followed by cheese slices to burgers 1 to 2 minutes before removing from grill.

4. Top toasted or warmed buns with burgers and serve with sliced onions, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce and low fat and fat free condiments.

Yield Four – 93% fat free burgers with 2 ounces 98% fat free pastrami and ½ ounce low fat mozzarella cheese each at approximately at 438 calories; 13 grams total fat; 5 grams saturated fat; 75 milligrams cholesterol; 48 grams carbohydrate; 5 grams dietary fiber; 43 grams protein; 1689 milligrams sodium.
