Mr. & Ms. Golden Years Pageant

Just because some of your loved ones are aging, doesn’t mean they can’t have some fun!

Deb Burcombe, Deputy Director of Utah Health Care Association shares details on the Mr. and Ms. Golden Years Pageant.

The Utah Health Care Association (UHCA) is an advocacy group that represents Utah’s nursing and post-acute care home community. Essentially, we make sure that the Utah’s frail and elderly, as well as individuals with intellectual disabilities, are receiving the highest quality care possible in the state’s long-term care communities. We also acts as a resource for families who are looking for licensed, professional care for a loved one, and help them locate a care facility within their community that meets our high standards.

For the last 16 years, UHCA has celebrated the lives of Utah’s aging population and promoted their quality of life through the “Mr. & Ms. Golden Years Pageant.” This is an inner and outer beauty pageant for the residents of long-term care facilities from across the state, and contestants range in age from the mid 60s to 90-plus-years.

Contestants answer a variety of questions, and are encouraged to share their many accomplishments with the pageant’s judges and audience. Questions include “What is one piece of advice that you would give today’s youth?” and “If you could put one item that best represents you in a time capsule, what would it be?”

The pageant is on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy in rooms 300 A through D. It starts at 8 a.m. and will be capped off around 10:30 a.m. when last year’s reigning royalty crown this year’s winners.

The public is encouraged to come help us celebrate the state’s seniors and promote their quality of life. For them, seeing so many faces out in the audience watching them and cheering them on is truly an incredible, heart-warming experience.
