The PVC Bin Storage Center can be built to store any shape and size bin. Having the storage center provides a few basic benefits.
The very most important is being able to access your stored materials in the bottom bin without having to un stack the 2,3, or 4 above it.
The other advantages are all based on getting more organized to begin with and getting to build something with PVC is just plain cool.
Building it yourself allows you to design the storage center to your needs. You can build it 2 high and 10 wide or 10 high and 2 wide. Once you have the basics of how to build it, you can customize it to the bins that you already have.
And so here are the basics
This project is pretty simple. You are only going to need a few different types of pieces to get started. Keep in mind that building this to your needs may require some imagination. Spend some time planning what you want to build, how high, how wide, and if you want to leave the ends open to expansion. I always leave the option to expand open.
1. First is the X, from the picture above you can see where these will fit. You are going to need as many in the front as you need in the back. I like to use these on all the connections as it leaves the option for expansion open. The unit above would use 16 in the front and 16 in the back.
2. Next is the T, you will need to use this to connect the front frame to the back. You can just pick random spots to secure front to back. That is the great thing about PVC you can just cut, and then add a section anywhere you want. Depending on what you are storing and its weight, you may need 2, 3, or 4 different places to connect front to back for stability. The unit above would use 16 front and 16 back.
3. The last critical piece is just good old PVC pipe. You are going to need to decide what size you want to use depending on what you plan to store. Heavier items (Books, video tapes) would require larger size pipe 1 1/2″ or so. Normal items such as Holiday Décor and other lighter items could use the smaller pipe sizes 1″. It never hurts to go a little big just to be safe. The unit above would use (40) 18″ pieces, front and back horizontals and verticals and (16) 24″ pieces, Front to back Braces.
Now it’s just a matter of putting it all together.
