If you are looking for ways to save energy and money, you could try these energy efficient tools

Furnace filter: Make sure you check your filter once a month and change it if it’s dirty. (Some furnaces have a washable filter so you can vacuum it or spray it off with a water hose. Also, some people who have central air conditioning don’t realize the furnace filter is used all summer long as cold air is circulated through the home’s duct system.

Caulking – Here’s a simple, inexpensive way to fill cracks around the house where warm air can escape. Good places to check are the windows. Use some caulk to seal areas around the window. You can even go on the outside of house to make sure cracks in joints, windows, framing, even the faucet for the hose are sealed. Not only will it prevent air from leaving your home, it can help keep insects from entering.

Weather stripping – This is a simple way to cut down on the amount of air that escapes your home through doors. You can take it and run it around the inside trim of your door to create a nice tight seal. You can also take a towel, roll it up and put on the floor against the door to prevent those cold drafts from sneaking in.

Programmable Thermostat – These little things can save you a lot of money, especially if you have a set schedule in your home. It will reduce the work time on your furnace at night when you go to sleep and it will increase your heat in the morning just before you wake up. It’s a great way to control your energy costs without having to constantly adjust temperature in your home.
