Rate & Reveal: The Best Eye Creams

Studio 5 Beauty & Style Contributor Holly Stone rates and reveals the best eye creams on the market.

In a daily skin care routine, the eye area is often the most neglected. Yet, as a make up artist, I am constantly asked how to make the eyes shine. My answer? Take care of the skin around them first! Skin care products can be intimidating especially when there are so many to choose from. There are literally hundreds of products to treat just the eye area! And there is much debate about whether eye care products are even necessary.

Because skin around the eye area is thin and delicate, it begins to show the signs of aging, sun damage and genetics a lot quicker than the rest of the face. For this reason, I always recommend specific eye care products. NOTE: I have found that eye products that claim to treat multiple problems are not as effective as the more targeted treatment products. A targeted product has higher ratios of the active ingredients in it and have proven to be most effective.

Problem: Firming

Product: Mary Kay TimeWise® Firming Eye Cream, www.marykay.com ($30.00)

This cream is ultra-rich and I noticed firming results within the first week of use. It provides intense moisuture and firming benefits. According to marykay.com “Ninety-six percent saw an improvement in the overall appearance of the skin around their eyes.”

Problem: Minimizing Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Product: BC PRO Magnet , www.brendachristian.com ($85.00)

I love this product because it delivers instant results! It is like a mini-eye lift in a bottle. This is a non-oily eye serum which contains high levels of bioactive ingredients that work in tandem to strengthen each other, maintaining maximum anti-aging benefits. It immediately tightens and minimizes wrinkles and dryness around the eyes and deters surface lining and wrinkle formation.

Problem: Dark circles

Product: L’Oreal’s Skin Genesis, Wal-mart ($15.99)

Dark circles can be caused by genetics, diet or several other factors. This product uses optical diffusers to minimize the appearance of dark circles, and rich algae to brighten the eye area.

Problem: Puffiness

Product: Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller, Walgreens ($9.99)

This product works immediately. I use it on any bride or model who hasn’t slept well or when my eyes look puffy. The instant results are amazing. According to Garnierusa.com “While you sleep circulation slows down and causes fluid to collect in your lower eye area. Dark circles and puffiness appear. Skin Renew anti-puff eye roller is right for you if you gently want to stimulate micro-circulation around skin’s delicate eye area to decongest excess fluid for diminished dark circles and puffiness”

Problem: Moisturizing

Product: Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Moisturizer, www.paulaschoice.com ($18.95)

This is where the skin care companies will try to sell you something you don’t need. If your eye area is dry, you can use a great moisturizer for dry skin on your eye area. There is no need for a separate eye cream to treat this symptom. Most hydrating eye creams are identical to moisturizers, just higher priced in a smaller jar.

Problem: Clarity

Product: Benefit High Beam www.sephora.com ($24.00)

Acts as a “back light” for eye make up. Dab a little of this on your eye lids and brow bone as well as the outside corners of your eyes for an immediate lightening and brightening. Can be used on other parts of the face as a highlighter.
