Rise Above Envy

As we try to celebrate the success of others, it’s still hard to see what our friends or neighbors have accomplished or acquired and not feel a little twinge of envy. It might be a little natural, but it’s not necessarily healthy and beneficial.

Studio 5 Relationship Coach Matt Townsend shares some ways to focus your outlook to rise above envy.

Envy could simply stand for:

Expressing
Negativity to
Validate
Yourself

The idea that you are going to improve your sense of self-worth or esteem by comparing yourself to others or competing with others is simply unfounded. You cannot create lasting happiness and peace in your life by focusing on the disparity between your life and another person’s any more than you can create a wonderful breakfast by understanding you have no eggs, no cereal or fruit and noticing that all of your neighbors and friends have all of those incredible ingredients in their homes. Your progress is not found in your deficiencies, wants or desires but instead in your ability to overcome the thinking patterns that create envy and immobilize your progress. There are four negatives thought patterns we need to turn off in order to eliminate our ENVY in life.

Turn Off:

1. Your focus on what you want instead of what you what have.

2. Your focus on what you don’t get from others instead of what you give to others.

3. Your assumptions about how others live and feel and try to understand their life from their reality.

4. Your basic belief that everyone has it better than you do and recognize we all just have it different, not better or worse!
