Setting Up A Dessert Buffet

Cheryl Burke, Interior Designer at Tai Pan Trading, explains how to set up a dessert bar.

The new twist on the popular candy buffet allows you to make it more sentimental. You can offer cookies, cakes and desserts that are family favorites. These can be from both the bride and groom, if it’s a wedding. It can be old family favorites if it’s a family reunion. Dig through the old recipe file boxes and find desserts that have some sentimental meaning. Then put them on display for everyone to see and enjoy. Follow some of the following tips for a successful dessert bar.

1. When setting up the desserts, use cake stands and trays, mixing in unique jars and containers for cookies and candies. Remember when using jars, use clear containers so guests can view their options. Tai Pan has a wide variety of cake stands, trays and containers as well as server-ware for many different wedding styles.

2. Use levels – one of the most important tips when creating a tablescape is to use different heights and levels. This can be achieved through not only buying different sizes, but stacking and taking special care to not place two same level containers side-by-side. Tai Pan offers a wide selection of tiered stands and wares of differing heights to create a unique and engaging tablescape.

3. Include traditions by using family recipes for the treats at the dessert bar – share the recipes and make them part of the display by using frames, nice paper and tent cards. Tai Pan has frames and display holders perfect for displaying your favorite recipes.

4. The dessert bar tablescape does not have to be limited to desserts – use creative décor and vases to include floral arrangements. Tai Pan has great vases and containers at an unbeatable value as well as a floral department that will arrange the flowers for you.

*All of the apothecary jars featured on today’s show are less than $10. Find more great wedding ideas and products at Tai Pan’s Tent Sale until Saturday June 6. There will be designers available on site to help develop creative ideas and find items for your big day.
