The four dominant colors this season are:

1. Charcoal (this season’s black)

2. Teal

3. Aubergine (eggplant)

4. Blue

THE FALL FACE

This fall the trend is all about the eyes. So naturally we would use these colors in the form of eye shadow and eyeliner. Every eye shape can accommodate these colors. Make sure that as you are using these bold colors that you use a lighter hand. Blue can be intense or subtle depending on how it is applied. Keep the bolder colors no higher than the crease, and preferably close to the lash line. You want the color to accent the eye-not detract from it. Don’t be afraid to try color.

Lips are bold as well but if you are used to a more natural make-up look, try popping a color on the eye to spice things up. Remember, using the right kind of brush can make all the difference.

FALL FASHION

Everyone can wear a tone of these colors. You must first evaluate your personal coloring. Your personal coloring is made up of your hair color, your skin tone, and your eye color. The dominant two out of the three will indicate your color temperature (warm or cool). Cool tone colors have more white in them, warm tone colors have more black. You want to use the tones of the fall colors that are in harmony with your personal coloring. An eggplant color with a blue undertone is more suitable for cool, where a red undertone is more suitable for warm. I would also suggest having a personal color evaluation done by a color specialist such as Roberta Hughes with Avidere www.avidereimage.com.

You can wear teal eye shadow with a teal sweater, but remember these colors are rich and can be overpowering if worn in large doses. Wear the make-up, an accessory or a piece of clothing in the trend colors, but don’t try to match all three. Let the color stand out as an accent.

Remember, to keep the colors close to the face. This will flatter your personal coloring.

Bottom Line: Don’t go out and try to fill your wardrobe with something in each trendy color. Pick a couple of colors that look great on you and invest in an accent piece in those colors. Trends change quickly so don’t make a huge investment in something that will soon be out of style.
