Spook up the front porch… today! 6 simple touches you can pull off in a few hours

Get your front porch trick-or-treat ready!

It’s no secret. We are big fans of holidays here at Studio 5, and we love highlighting all the ways that people go all out for Halloween, especially when it comes to the front porch.

Studio 5 Trend Tracker Mindy Dunyon shared some super simple and easy ways to spook up that porch just in time for Halloween.

Mindy’s Front Porch Witch

If you have time for a bit of DIY, Mindy shared her long-standing tradition of creating a witch out of a coat rack. “We have this witch that we have had for years… and every year she kind of evolves,” she said. They change her face, hair, and hat each Halloween.

Spooky Ambiance

One of the easiest ways to create a spooky atmosphere is through lighting. Mindy suggested using light bulbs that look like a flickering flame. You can find them here to add an eerie glow to your porch. “I just put them in my sconces out in front of my house,” Mindy mentioned. It creates a spooky feel for trick-or-treaters, and all you did was switch out the lightbulbs.

Flickering Candles

Battery-operated candles are another easy addition. Mindy shared some hanging candles that add some fun interaction. “You can turn them on and off with your wand,” she explained. These candles can be used both indoors and outdoors. Find them here, or at your local Michael’s.

Fairy Light Spider Web

Mindy mentioned a lit spider web from Harmon’s, which is currently on sale. “It comes with a remote so you can turn them on and off, you can make them blink, and you can have them on a timer,” she explained.

It comes with all the pieces you need to set it up. “It’s just a really fun way to add some kind of light,” Mindy said.

Spooky Sounds

Adding spooky sounds will elevate your Halloween porch. Mindy showed an interactive doorbell you can find at Target, Walmart, or Amazon if you have time. “You can hang it on your door and it’s just super fun and easy,” she said.

Mindy also suggested  using an Amazon Alexa or Google device to play Halloween sounds. “You can go into her skills and find a Halloween sounds skill,” she said.

These spooky sounds, or even screams, can play on a loop. “You can leave it out on your porch kind of hidden, and it will play some fun things,” Mindy said.

Door Jack-O’-Lantern

For a quick Halloween DIY, Mindy recommended using black felt to create a jack-o’-lantern face for your door. Poseable skeletons can also be a fun decoration you can put anywhere. “You could hang this on your door as your wreath,” she suggested, or mix it into an existing wreath for a spooky touch.
