Style File:Layering Essentials

Studio 5’s Jeanette Lefrandt shows us how to use layering to keep us stylish and ready for what ever mother nature decides to bring.

Layering is a fun concept that can be put to use during any season. There are seven items that I think every gal must have in her closet. Belts- Whether they are bold colors or skinny, this is a great way to spice up any outfit. Bright colors, metallics or even a simple black is a must in your wardrobe.

Cardigans– I love cardigans. Whether you prefer solid or some fun print they always look good. If I have a fun blouse I love putting a solid cardigan on to pull the whole look together. I prefer the classic 3/4 sleeve and full button down the front cardigan. This is always a classic cut. Play with colors to make a statement.

Blouses– I am a big fan of the ruffled and patterned blouses, but if simple and classic is your style, make sure you have a nice fitted blouse. These can be worn under cardigans or make a statement with pops of color in jewelry or a belt.

Sheer Tops– When it starts to get warm, lots of layers are not very comfortable. By layering with a more sheer or thin top, you can pull off the layered look, without feeling like you are wearing all your winter layers. Prints and patterns on sheer tops add a fun accent and can really pull an outfit together.

Tights– While tights are something we think about wearing mostly in the winter, they can really make an outfit pop. Patterned or even bright colored tights are a fun way to make a statement without having to change your wardrobe. Layer a fun tight under shorts or a skirt to draw some attention to legs. Of course a sassy heel is necessary for this fierce look.

Vests and Jackets– Depending on the weather a vest or jacket is an easy way to create cute layers. A jacket can be used as an accessory that you take on or off if the weather changes throughout the day. Vests are also a great way to show off your waistline with the perfect cut. A vest can dress up any T-shirt look with some jewelry and fun shoes.

Scarves– It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, a scarf can always be put to use. A lighter fabric and bright color can really make you stand out. Layered jewelry is also a great way to update an outfit.
