Sweet and Sour Sauce with Brown Rice

Sweet and Sour Sauce
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup water
½ cup rice wine vinegar
½ T. fresh ground ginger
1 T. Hoisin sauce
2 T. corn starch

1. Mix all ingredients together and heat to boiling until thickened.

Additional Notes:

Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator 7 to 10 days or can be frozen. Sauce can be used warm over vegetables and rice for an island rice taste, as a dip for Edemame beans or as a basting sauce for barbequed meats.

Brown Rice
1 cup brown rice
1 ½ cups water
1 t. salt

1. Boil rice and water in a heavy saucepan over high heat.

2. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to simmer for 20 minutes.

3. Turn off the heat and let stand for 10 to 20 minutes.

4. Can be served hot or cold.
