The Right Red

Thanks to the “resurgence of retro”, red lips are red hot right now. But finding the right color is just as important as the right shoe size. Makeup Artist, Megan Wright says just about everyone looks good wearing red lipstick as long as you follow a couple simple rules of thumb.

Fair Skin: Women with fair skin tend to have more options with red lips. Fair skin tends to have more pink in their skin which complements a lot of shades. Pick shades that are more true reds, or you can go for the brighter red-orange lipstick.

Tip: keep your eyes very soft and classic with a kat eye, you don’t want to take away from the red lip so keep cheeks nude with a soft pink.

Medium Skin: Women with Medium skin look best with cherry reds and plum reds. Medium skin tends to have warmer undertones. So remember to pick warmer reds.

Tip: Keep your eyes basic with a just a little bit of gold shimmer, and added a little bit of color to cheeks to help balance the red lip. Add a little bit of gloss to really make the color pop.

Dark Skin: Dark skin has a great selection as well. Blood reds to Berry reds are really flattering. Dark skin tones have more golden and bronze undertones which complements many deeper reds as well as a deeper red orange lipstick.
