Tips for Small Spaces with Big Potential

Give that ho-hum little corner in your house a jolt of energy! Instead of leaving it empty and unused, you can make it stylish and functional.

Nikki Petersen with Indigo Sage Furniture Gallery shares 4 tips to make a big impact in small spaces.

A Splash of Color

Something as simple and easy as a fun, unique chair compliments the corner space. A space like this is a great place to put that funky item or color you are dying to add to your decor but may be timid to dive in too deep. By adding just a touch you can get the same effect without making a big commitment. Here we have added another punch of orange in the clock to compliment the chair.

Add A Conversation Piece

Who would not want a fun space like this to sit down and put a puzzle together, do homework, or even pay bills. A small writing desk is very functional yet stylish! It also allows a great display area for fun accessories! Make sure to dress the walls up around the desk so it creates a destination area, not just another piece of furniture.

A Rug will Ground Small Spaces

What a difference a fun rug can make! This would make a great reading nook, with the pendant lamp hung above for not only extra light but also adds another layer of warmth and texture to the space.

Pair Large Scale Items Together

By using a mirror the space looks bigger. This space can be used for nothing more than a great look or for a space for your kids to hang. By adding big throw pillows around the ottoman it softens the space and makes it inviting. Notice the chandelier, it adds that finishing touch to the space and also adds light. Chandeliers and drop lighting are huge right now and can be done very inexpensively. This light is not hard wired, you can simply plug it in. The best thing about this setting is that everything used here is small and can easily be used somewhere else in the home should you choose to do so.
