‘Tis the Season for… Capes, Shawls and Ponchos

What’s the best way to stay warm this season and hide those extra five
pounds you gained during the holidays? A cape, shawl or poncho, of course!
It’s a classic look made new again, and even better, it really compliments the
skinny jean/legging/pencil skirt trend. Whether you spend $300 dollars or
$30 dollars, this elegant look is accessible to everyone, and it’s easy to dress
up or down. Studio 5 contributor ShaLyse Walker has some tips for
pulling it
off!

Get a Cape-Coat

Not ready to wear this trend as an outfit? Get a cape silhouetted coat, and
you’ll look elegant, classy, and perfectly on trend. Buy it in a tonal color such
as camel or black, and wear it over your dress clothes or favorite jeans and
tee. If you’re worried about your arms getting cold, go ahead and wear a long
sleeved tee underneath. If not, the cape sleeve will show off that fancy
bracelet even more! This look works perfectly for anyone ages 25-75.

Wear a Poncho Sweater

Wanting to really embrace this trend? Go for a poncho-like sweater. This
trend compliments a taller frame best. Instead of your boot-cut or flared
jeans, balance the volume of the sweater with a legging or skinny jean. You’ll
feel cozy and fashionable at the same time.

Buy an Open Shawl

An open shawl is one of the most flattering looks out there. It covers just
enough, but allows you to showcase that cute belt or your fabulous
accessories. It’s also a great way to add a pop of color to an otherwise all-
black outfit. The open shawl works perfectly on the love-handle or booty
conscious woman, as it covers all the right places! Whether you make it look
boho or glam, this look works for a wide range of ages as well.

Petite? Go for a Cropped Look

Vertically challenged? You don’t have to feel left out of this trend. Just like
petite women should wear their skirts a bit shorter (just above the knee) to
help them appear taller, the same rule applies for ponchos, capes, and
shawls. Wear something that hits just at or barely below the waist. If it’s
cropped in the back, that’s even better because it shows your waist and the
length of your leg.

Rocked a Belted Cape

Love your waistline? Worried about looking like you’re drowning? Planning on
wearing a skirt with your cape? The solution to all of these problems is a
belted cape. A belt defines your best asset while still allowing for that
vintage, classic cape look. It also adds structure, especially if you’re planning
on wearing a skirt. See? Anyone can truly pull of this fabulous fall trend!
