Making your handwriting into a font is actually pretty simple!
We love the sentiment behind a hand-written note, and we love the speed of a typed-up document. What if you could have both? From pen to pixel, you can bring your personal lettering to the digital world.
Creative Editor Jill Broadbent shows us how to turn your own handwriting into a custom font.
The font is called Fontself. It is a $20 app, but once you purchase the app, you can design as many fonts as you wish. You’ll need an iPad and an Apple Pencil or stylus to draw the letters. There are many fun features including a variety of pen, brush, and marker tips to create different styles. You can also copy and paste a shape for consistency in your letterforms.
For documenting your handwriting, add all the unique things you do when you write. If you always use a capital letter in the middle of words, add it to your handwriting font to make it feel personal. You can also have other family members create their font so you can document their personal flair as well.
Once you export the font, you can use it in any design application or even Microsoft Word and other software. The font becomes a .OTF file which can be imported into any font collection and used freely.
It’s a fun and special way to add your signature style to anything you type.
