People Helping People (PHP) is dedicated to reducing the number of children living in poverty by teaching low-income mothers how to earn a living wage. The PHP Successful Employment Program delivers a proven combination of workshops and one-on-one mentoring to give women the knowledge, tools, confidence and encouragement they need to achieve their full potential in the workplace. Each single mother that PHP transitions from welfare saves our community between $5,000 and $20,000 annually. Your workplace experience valuable. 4-H supports the positive development of youth. Volunteers work with youth in after-school programs, detention, or youth court. 4-H provides the volunteer with easy to do lessons and activities. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah helps children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Mentoring is provided by carefully screened adult volunteers and is provided in schools and the community. Bridges Volunteer Program places volunteers in classrooms throughout Salt Lake County to improve the academic skills of children. Volunteers work with children one-on -one in reading, spelling or writing. Volunteers receive and orientation, ongoing training, and must pass a background check. Juvenile Justice Services provides services for at-risk and incarcerated youth. Volunteers assist the youth with improving their overall competence and become law-abiding and productive citizens. Opportunities include reading groups, financial fitness groups, and recreational ideas. Volunteers must be 21 years old and complete an orientation and background check Hours are flexible. The Village Project is a volunteer mentor program that serves court -involved youth in Salt Lake County. Mentors are matched based on common interests and location.
