Wearing the Season’s Hottest Sweaters

Sweaters are warm, cozy and comfortable – they can also be big, bulky and
unflattering.

Studio 5 Contributor ShaLyse Walker shares tips for pulling off the sweater
trends of the season!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…despite Utah’s freezing cold
temperatures! With this season’s sweaters, it’s easy to stay cozy, warm, and
most important, fashionable! However, with all of the shapes, prints, and
lengths of sweaters available, how’s a girl to know which silhouette and style
to choose without looking overwhelmed or worse, unflattering? Here are a
few things to consider:

When in Doubt, Choose Cashmere

This is the one thing every woman, no matter what her shape or size, needs
in her closet. It’s the perfect everyday sweater. Whether you dress it up with a
skirt or dress it down with a pair of jeans, you’ll look current and classy.
Need a gift idea? Buy a v-neck cashmere sweater in a great color. Your
teenage daughter or your 85 year-old grandmother will love it. The best
part? Cashmere doesn’t have to break the bank. These fabulous sweaters are
available in a variety of colors for under $100:

Pear-Shaped Gals? Get a Cropped Sweater

This trendy look is one that requires somewhat of a discerning eye. If you
love your midsection, go get a cropped sweater! Layer it over a camisole and
jeans, and you’re set! For a more forgiving look, throw it over a crisp or silky
button down shirt (untucked) and wear it to the office with a pencil skirt or
pair of dress pants. Voila! Multiple ways to pull off this cute new trend.

To Flatter an Apple Shape, go for a Sweater Tunic

Love your legs but hate your tummy? This season’s tunic sweaters are the
perfect look for you. This long, flowy-not to mention comfy-trend looks
great
with leggings or skinny jeans and boots. Just be sure the tunic covers your
buns! As long as you keep whatever you wear on bottom skinny and
streamlined, you’ll look perfect!

Pulling off the “Cabin” or “Fair Isle” Sweater

What was once a look only appropriate for an “Ugly Sweater Party” is now a
major fashion trend that can be pulled of with some strategizing and
thought. The key to wearing the cabin or Fair Isle sweater is to pair it with
other trendy elements like a chambray shirt and skinny jeans to make it look
purposeful and modern. Otherwise, you might end up looking ironic, and
worse, frumpy. Lastly, own this trend with a big smile and most importantly,
confidence!
