Jamie Whittingham: The Softer Side of U Football

Jamie Whittingham doesn’t like the spotlight, but what she does like is football, especially University of Utah football, and the man that happens to coach U football, head coach Kyle Whittingham.

The Whittingham’s were married in 1983 when the Provo High School sweethearts were married. Shortly after, Kyle began his coaching career as a BYU graduate assistant. Then it was on to College of Eastern Utah, Idaho State and then to Utah in 1992 as defensive line coach alongside his father. Now Kyle is head coach, and Jamie admits the stress is a whole lot different and confesses that it’s more stressful. She jokes with the wife of former Ute head coach Urban Meyer.

“I texted Shelley Meyer and said I don’t remember being this stressed, and she said, it’s because he’s the head coach now.”

There’s plenty of attention on Kyle Whittingham and his Utes, though Jamie prefers to stay in the background. But regardless of wins or losses on the field of play, Jamie and Kyle Whittingham are a winning team for one of Utah’s most successful sports programs and teams around.
