Your phone is great, but sometimes paper calendars do the job better.
We pack along a lot when we pack along a phone: camera, video camera, our social connections. For most women, your personal calendar lives on that device too. But is there a better way to track life’s daily details?
Brittany Jepsen, creative mind behind House That Lars Built, is all about modern technology until it comes to scheduling. She believes there are three kinds of paper calendars every woman should keep.
Embracing Paper Planners
Brittany is a self-proclaimed “paper girl.” She recently released a beautiful collection of paper planners with Blue Sky.
Despite her love for modern technology, she emphasized the importance of writing things down. “There is nothing more impressionable to your brain than writing things down,” she said. This practice not only helps you retain information, but also sparks creativity and inspiration.
The Front & Center Calendar
Brittany believes that every family should have a big, front and center calendar.
She shared a personal story about how this type of calendar helped her son, who struggles with transitions, to better understand and anticipate daily activities. “We wrote down a list like Lagoon, Splash Summit, even just like simple things like going to the park… and we put it together on our big calendar,” she explained. This visual aid alleviated stress and brought a sense of calm and confidence to her son.
The Binder Calendar
For more detailed planning, Brittany suggested using a binder calendar. This type of calendar is perfect for students or anyone who needs to keep track of multiple activities. Brittany uses it for her church activities in primary where she teaches kids to sing songs.
The binder calendar is thin and portable, making it easy to carry and use on the go. “It sticks right on the front and I don’t forget it,” Brittany explained.
The Tiny Calendar
Lastly, Brittany recommended having a tiny calendar for on-the-go notes.
She keeps hers in a fanny pack, ready to jot down important information at any moment. “For the on-the-go notes that I need to jot down or when someone is saying something to me, I pull it out in the moment and then transfer it later,” she explained. Doing this helps make sure you remember the important things, and helps you maintain an organized schedule.
