America First Credit Union, JC Penney, and the generosity of thousands of
members have kept alive a 17-year tradition that assists children in need:
Warm the Soles of Kids.
This season, America First has again renewed the partnership that brings new
shoes to economically disadvantaged students in schools located throughout
the credit union’s service area. These include Lakeview Elementary School in
Roy; children from the Road Home attending Midvale Elementary School; and
students at elementary schools in Brigham City and Santaquin, as well as
Gibson Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada. America First is also working
with the Family Support Center at Hill Air Force Base to give shoes to affected
children there.
More than 700 students in all will be getting these early Christmas presents.
As a part of the program, JC Penney in Riverdale gives the credit union a
discount on name-brand shoes in the latest styles. America First then works
with schools to distribute them to deserving children at parties held prior to
the holiday.
“The delivery events and parties are a highlight of the holidays for our
volunteers,” said Nicole Cypers, America First’s community outreach
administrator. “It is always so rewarding to see their excitement when they
get these new shoes a couple weeks before Christmas. We are so grateful to
our members for contributing to this wonderful effort.”
Donations to the Warm the Soles of Kids program can be made through
