‘Approach everything as a season.’ How living life in seasons helps us grow

Start living life in seasons.

Boyd Matheson, host of KSL News Radio’s Inside Sources and moderator of Sunday Edition on KSL TV, is stepping back to pursue new professional opportunities. While we are excited for Boyd’s new chapter, we will miss his voice of reason, empathy, and compassion.

Before he leaves, Boyd graciously shared a parting message with us about the gift of seasons.

The Concept of Seasonal Living

Boyd believes in the importance of seasonal living. He explained, “The best thing to do is to just approach everything as a season rather than ‘this is where I’m staying.’” This philosophy encourages embracing change and viewing life as a series of seasons, each with its own purpose and opportunities for growth.

Learning and Development

Boyd credits his parents for teaching him the value of continuous learning and development. “Nothing’s permanent in this life… and the most important thing is that you’re constantly learning and developing,” he shared. This mindset has guided Boyd throughout his career, allowing him to embrace new challenges and opportunities.

Trusting the Timing

Understanding when to embrace a new season can be challenging. Boyd advised paying attention to feelings of staleness or the urge to lean into something new. “There’s always kind of that gut moment where you say, ‘I’m either feeling a little stale, or I’m feeling like I need to lean into something, even if I’m not sure what it is.’”

The Power of 90-Day Seasons

Boyd highlighted the effectiveness of setting 90-day goals. “A 90-day season is long enough to do something significant, but short enough that there’s still a little bit of urgency to get you moving and growing.” This approach helps maintain focus and motivation, making it easier to achieve meaningful progress.

Applying Seasonal Living to Relationships

Boyd emphasized that relationships also go through seasons. “Your relationship with your children, they are very seasonal exercises,” he noted. Embracing these changes allows for growth and renewal in relationships, whether with children, partners, or friends.

As Boyd steps into his new chapter, we are grateful for the wisdom and heart he has shared with us. His message encourages us to approach each season with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to grow.
