Simplify back-to-school shopping! Capsule wardrobe ideas for 4 different personalities

A capsule wardrobe is really helpful in a back to school scenario.

No need for a whole new wardrobe. Instead, help your kids curate a capsule wardrobe! It’s a good way to not only save money, but a streamlined closet makes getting dressed in the morning easier.

Stylist Reachel Bagley, with Cardigan Empire, shared a few pro tips to help us learn how to mix and match a few key pieces to create endless outfit combinations.

The Benefits of a Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is not just for women. It can be even more beneficial for kids. They grow up fast, and getting the most wear out of their clothes is a must.

“If you can get the maximum amount of wear out of your clothing, it’s really helpful for your budget,” Reachel emphasized.

A capsule wardrobe minimizes obsolete clothing items, and makes getting dressed in the morning easier.

How Many Items Do Kids Really Need?

When it comes to back-to-school shopping, less is more.

Reachel suggested that one back-to-school outfit is enough. “I’ll usually get my kids about two shirts, two bottoms, maybe a layer or a few accessories…. and that really is enough.”

This is plenty, especially since they still have clothes left over from summer, and, won’t be wearing those sweaters and jeans until at least Halloween, if not Thanksgiving.

Capsule Wardrobes for Different Personalities

Reachel shared unique capsule wardrobe ideas depending on your child’s personality.

Trendy Tween Girl

Reachel recommended keeping the base neutral with a pop of their favorite color. This makes it easy to find different combinations and full use of the pieces.

Comfort Queen

Again, focus on neutrals. Look for soft fabrics, easy fits, and pops of color in the accessories. This approach can work for boys too.

Preppy Boy

Reachel emphasized that this style can be as relaxed and comfortable as anything else. Incorporating stripes and nods to the collegiate make for a fun, polished, and comfortable wardrobe.

Sporty Boy

This child might want to buy one brand and wear it. Reachel suggested letting them express their favorite teams or sports, but also throwing in some neutrals to make the wardrobe more versatile.
