Navigating Perfectionism

Nathan addressed the issue of perfectionism, a trait many women wrestle with, especially around the holidays. He believes that perfectionism is not something to be overcome, but navigate. “I don’t think it’s possible to fully overcome it just because as human beings, it’s inevitable that we beat up on ourselves every now and then,” he explained. Nathan emphasized the importance of being kind to yourself and focusing on connection rather than perfection.

Nathan shared a personal story about his early days in the music business. He trained with a teacher in Manhattan who helped him understand how to support his voice properly. This experience led to a profound realization about how hard he was on himself. “The greatest threat to your happiness in life is how hard you are on yourself. It’s as if you’re strangling who you really are,” he reflected. This insight helped him separate his self-judgment from how he believed God viewed him.

A Memorable Performance

One of Nathan’s most significant performances was at the 100th birthday celebration of President Russell M. Nelson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nathan described the experience as an enormous honor, noting how President Nelson made everyone feel special and appreciated. “Even though it was all about him, he kind of made it all about other people,” Nathan recalled.
