Brooke Romney just gets us!
Women are good at connecting and meeting others where they’re at. So, we wanted to highlight that important quality through a series we call “On My Mind,” where we invite women we admire to share what they’re currently thinking about. Whether that lands light on the surface or slides in deeper.
This month’s On My Mind guest is a favorite of yours and ours. She’s a best-selling author, speaker, and educator. Brooke Romney, of the popular social media account “Brooke Romney Writes,” inspires everywhere she goes. Her words, shared in books and posts, are known to uplift and encourage. She just gets you, and her vulnerability and honesty are admired by many. On a more personal note, she’s a wife, boy mom, and a grandma to two littles.
Here’s our conversation with Brooke at a glance…
Saying Yes to Opportunities
Brooke shared a valuable lesson about the power of saying yes. She recalled judging a speech competition and how saying yes to opportunities, even when feeling unqualified, has led to many blessings in her professional life. “Every good thing that has happened was because I said yes,” Brooke emphasized.
Friendship and Fairness
Brooke discussed the importance of recognizing and appreciating different ways people show love and friendship. She recounted a conversation with a friend who helped her see that not everyone reciprocates in the same way, but that doesn’t diminish their value. “People are giving to you. They’re just not doing it in the way that you’ve prescribed that it would be,” she explained.
Embracing Small Changes
Brooke talked about overcoming the all-or-nothing mindset and embracing small, positive changes. She shared a story about deciding to snack on apples instead of a less healthy option she prefers. It doesn’t mean she’ll never eat sweets again, but she proved to herself that even little decisions make an impact. “I can do the small, good thing, and I can do the small, good thing tomorrow,” she said.
