We can create calm amid the chaos.
We’re all dreaming of a white Christmas, but more than snow, we’re really dreaming of a calm Christmas. At times, it feels a little out of reach. When the kids are fighting over who gets to play Mary in the manger scene, juggling traditions, to-do lists, trying to cross off everything before the 25th. It may not always feel like all is calm and bright.
We’re rounding out our Studio 5 Christmas List, and writing to someone who embraces and embodies the word calm. Even through the Christmas chaos! We didn’t write to Santa this year, because we found someone even better. Studio 5 Contributor Kelly Jensen is answering our call for calm. Kelly shared how to create a serene and joyful Christmas.
Embracing Calm During the Christmas Season
For Kelly, calm and peace represent a safe haven, a refuge from the storm. She described it as “feeling that you have something inside you that keeps you even, no matter what’s going on around you.” This inner stability is crucial in navigating the hectic holiday season.
Focusing on the Why
Kelly emphasized the importance of focusing on the reasons behind our holiday traditions. She noted that chaos often stems from our desire for perfection. By stepping back and remembering that the holidays are about family, reconnecting with loved ones, and creating memories, we can find more joy and less stress.
Letting It Happen
One of Kelly’s key pieces of advice is to “let it happen.” She encouraged us to accept the imperfections and unpredictability of the season. Whether dealing with a grumpy teenager or a critical relative, she advised to let them be and not waste energy trying to control the uncontrollable.
Anchoring Your Energy
Kelly also spoke about the power of anchoring your energy. She explained that the energy we bring into our homes could influence the entire atmosphere. By creating a calm environment with dimmed lights, candles, and soothing music, we can help others align with this peaceful energy.
Being Interruptible
Kelly reminded us that many of Christ’s miracles occurred when He was interrupted. By being open to interruptions and prioritizing the needs of others, we can create a more meaningful and flexible holiday experience.
Creating and Holding Space
Finally, Kelly urged us to create and hold space for what is truly important. Focus on your goals, whether it’s gathering family or creating special moments, and let go of the less important details.
