These are concrete ways to express gratitude.
Practicing gratitude can boost our happiness and be a lift to those around us, but gratitude can sometimes feel like a floating concept that’s hard to pin down and actually practice.
Katie Hughes helped us lock in on that intention and has created a list of five concrete and creative ways to express and feel gratitude.
1. Gratitude for Self
Consider the special gifts and talents you have been given and write them on a mirror with a marker or sticky note. Practice looking in the mirror and thanking yourself for who you are beyond what you see.
2. Gratitude for Spouse
Plan a night out, or even better, a night in for a special candlelight dinner with the one you love. Use the time together to express gratitude for the parts of your relationship that you’re grateful for. Let go of the parts that are difficult or hard.
3. Gratitude for Family
Plan a whole evening around gratitude. Make dinner or serve a treat. Cover the table in butcher paper and have the whole family write or draw what they are grateful for, or better yet, have them write what they’re grateful for for the person at each place.
4. Gratitude for Others
Get out and serve! Help a friend, neighbor, or someone in need. Be deliberate and intentional in what you do. Offer a helping hand, drop off dinner for no reason, or watch their children for an afternoon.
5. Gratitude for God
Proclaim your gratitude for Him to your family, a friend, or publicly in some way. Share with others how He has blessed your life or how He is making the way.
