Fall Home Show: Small Space Solutions

Fall Home Show: Small Space Solutions

Don’t worry if you have a small space and a lot of things to fit in it. There are
some solutions to making the space work to fit your needs. Some of those
solutions are featured at the Deseret News Fall Home Show.

Celeste Ledesma of IKEA shows of some of the strategies for small space
living.

Storage Idea #1
First, focus on your priorities and living habits …Then you can allocate the
most space to the activities you do most within your home. For students who
spend most of the time studying or reading, a small “multi-purpose
workstation” Such as the EXPEDIT desk/shelf combination will allow for work
and storage options.

Storage Idea #2
In terms of shelving and storage, one of the most underused spaces in any
room is the two or three feet just below the ceiling. Instead of a typical 4-5′
tall bookcase, think about installing shelving units that can be installed up to
8′ or more – then find a fun and decorative stool to help reach your items. If
you can, mount shelves over windows and doors, and above kitchen cabinets
– you’ll be surprised how much you can store! Check out the BILLY Bookcase
solution:

Storage Idea #3
When purchasing furniture and other items for your small living space,
always think foldup, pull-out, and multipurpose. For example, a dining table
can also function as a desk. A BEDDINGE Sofa Bed can be used to sleep at
night, but during the day can double as a sofa. BESTA Media Solutions can be
customized to hold your TV, Shelving and storage and a Laptop workstation

Integrate logical, easily accessible items that make you happy in your small
space. As long as you have an easy spot to store items, the clutter won’t
accumulate. IKEA has so many items that will help turn small spaces into an
inspirational, functional and comfortable home.

These items can be found at IKEA in Draper or online at IKEA.com … Pick up
the large IKEA catalog for more ways to be inspired, copies are available at
any IKEA store or at the Deseret News Fall Home Show.
