Show up as your best self this holiday season and you’ll enjoy it more!
Christmas often brings with it a sense of chaos and overwhelming hustle. However, there is a way to step back from this chaos and find comfort. We came across this thought: “Your nervous system will always choose familiar chaos over unfamiliar peace until you learn to heal and choose different.”
Emotional performance coach Natty Lewis believes that it is possible to be in the chaos without being consumed by it. Life is inherently busy and chaotic, especially during the holiday season, but whether you’re consumed by it depends on your focus and how you chose to show up.
The Power of Focus and Presence
Natty illustrated her point with an example of attending two different parties with the same conditions. One party was enjoyable, while the other was exhausting. The difference lay in how she showed up—whether she was tired or well-rested, hungry or fed, ready to experience something new or just checking a box out of obligation. Host Amy Iverson emphasized, “It’s more about the space YOU are in, not the space you’re in.”
Embracing Unfamiliar Peace
In a world where survival mode has become the norm, thriving and pursuing passions feels unfamiliar. Natty noted that many people are more comfortable with survival than with peace and thriving. She challenged people to become familiar with peace by choosing to focus on it and being intentional about their approach to the holidays.
Intentional Peace During the Holidays
Natty encouraged people to step back and decide what the holidays truly mean to them. She believes that internal and intentional peace is available regardless of life’s circumstances. By focusing on the joy and magic of the season, you can find peace even in the midst of chaos. For example, finding joy in a child’s messy ornament-making rather than focusing on the mess itself.
Self-Care as a Path to Peace
Natty highlighted the importance of self-care, especially during the holidays. Many women neglect their foundational needs, leading to exhaustion and stress. She pointed out that it is impossible to feel peaceful when tired, hungry, and dehydrated. Proper self-care, including adequate sleep, nutrition, and hydration, is essential for showing up as one’s best self.
Natty reminded us that peace during the holidays is a choice. By focusing on what truly matters and taking care of ourselves, we can step back from the chaos and find comfort and joy in the season. As she put it, “We can learn to enjoy it and not be consumed by it when we choose what we’re going to focus on and how we’re going to show up.”
