Everyone has a book-lover on their Christmas list, but what do you buy the reader who has read everything?
Author and book enthusiast Teri Harman has gift ideas that will not only wow readers, but will become a treasured addition to their library.
Buying a book for the book lover on your list can be an intimidating task, especially if you’re looking to give something more interesting than the latest best-selling novel. Here are a few ideas and tips for buying a book that will not only wow them, but become a treasured addition to their library.
BEAUTIFUL BOOKS
The Folio Society is committed to creating beautiful books, not only in story, but also typography, illustration, paper, printing and binding. They take the books we already love and turn them into works of art any true bibliophile would be proud to place on their shelf.
“Fiction or poetry, history or science, biography or mythology, there is something for everyone.”
{Wizard of Oz illustrated by Sara Ogilvie)
Some of Folio’s popular titles include Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, The Complete Harry Potter Series, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit, Fahrenheit 451, To Kill a Mockingbird, Shakespeare’s Sonnets and so much more. Their collection boasts more than 400 books.
These books are only available at www.foliosociety.com. (Orders must be placed by Dec. 18 to get them by Christmas.)
CHILDHOOD FLASHBACK
The books we read as children take on a magical quality no other books can attain. Just picking up a book one read as a kid can bring back a flood of memories, sensations and put an instant smile on your face.
To give a meaningful and fun gift to the book lover on your list, find out one of their favorite childhood reads and then give an updated edition, anniversary edition or first/early printing. You can never have too many recreations of a book you love.
Another fun idea is to give a picture or board book on a subject your book lover is interested in. There are so many amazing picture books – truly works of art – which adults can enjoy as much as children. And the whimsy of giving a children’s book as a gift to an adult will not be forgotten.
