Glass Jar Makeovers

#1 “Light it up” I’m not a believer in that you can only use
Christmas lights
only during December (in a tactful way). You can always find some place in
your home to add a little light and why not use jars? I purchased the jars
from Walmart (you can get a case of 12 for $9). I painted them blue using the
water/floor polish technique. You can find the holders at any antique store or
even use your own canning container. Adding lights to the inside, just gives a
little light to illuminate your home in the right amount.

#2 Fabric Jars – I got the containers from Hobby Lobby and
decided to do
something a little different than the regular fabric strapped to the outside of
the jars. All you need is some old fabric straps, clear Elmers glue and jars.
The biggest tip for this is to use CLEAR Elemers glue. The regular white glue
will turn your fabric or lace to a yellowish color. I cut the fabric into strips
about 1 1/2″ wide and whatever length your jar is. For the correct mixture
you add glue and then water until it’s a little runny. It is easiest to dip the
bottom of you fabric into your glue mixture and then place inside your jar
#3 Cookie in a Jar – Who doesn’t love a good cookie. Especially when all you
have to do is add a little egg and vanilla to the mix. You can make these for
a neighbor, make them prior to camping or family trips, or just tuck away
until you’re ready to cook them up.

COOKIE RECIPE:

1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup cooking oats

3/4 cup m&ms

3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup white sugar

1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Stir all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

Add

1 slightly beaten egg

1/2 cup butter (melted slightly in the microwave)

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Use the back of a large spoon to
work it all together. You may even need to use your hands to get everything
incorporated.

Then roll the cookie dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, place on a parchment
covered baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes in a preheated 350
degree oven. I got about 26-28 cookies out of these.

#4 “Message in a Bottle” It can always be fun to look back on
memories,
especially those little moments that may slip our memories if we don’t write
them down. It certainly isn’t too late to start with 2012. You can take any
container, I liked the appeal of the message in a bottle, so I got this at Hobby
Lobby. Simply place in an area of your home that is a reminder, take simple
pieces of paper and as days go by write down your memories and pop them
in. I can’t wait to break this at the end of the year and read the memories.

#5 “Stuff this mess” Why can’t your little miscellaneous crafts be
tucked away
in a piece of art? I found an old frame, painted it with a simple white spray
paint. Added mason jars with hose grips and slipped in miscellaneous
buttons, pins, ribbon etc.

#6 Hot glue Letters On most jars you will find some sort of
lettering with the
company or product. So why not add your own lettering? Take your hot glue
gun, eyeball your letter’s and allow time to dry. Remove all little glue strings
from the jar or else they will show up in your finished product. First add a
primer to your jar and then paint it the color of your choice. There you have
your own specialized jar for easy decor.
